About

María Munain Moral

Curious, turquoise, sand, goat, desert, blue sky, searcher…

I am the most grateful therapist in the world, I can work in what I love most, combining movement, body and psychotherapy!

The pilars of my sessions are Dance Movement Therapy and Schema therapy. I am registered in the Dutch Federation FVB/NVDaT (106871) and soon will be also Senior Auxiliar Schema Therapist in the VSt.

I work in i-psy Intercultural Psychiatry, part from Parnassia Groep, the biggest group of mental health service in NL, and in Sa4 Zorg a small scale clinic, both out-patient clinics in Amstedam.

In my private practice I aim to support and help individuals to improve their contact with their own bodies, develop interception, explore the origin of recurrent disfunctional patterns; improve the self esteem and assertiveness; and develop emotion regulation skills, among others.

Moreover,  I am creating L I B R A Z, a non profit organization to empower and provide movement and creativity-oriented trainings to communities who endured traumatic experiences in their lives.

personal

Born and raised in Vitoria, the Basque Country (Spain), lived in Barcelona and Damascus (2008-2011), to finally settled down in Amsterdam for the last 7 years.

At the age of 13 I said to a dear fried that I wanted to learn to dance, and her mum answered: ¨María you just have birds in your head.” Almost one year time took me to gather the courage to enroll in the weekly classes of the neighborhood club. Ever since then movement and being in contact with my body has given me confidence and courage to fight forward in difficult moments of my life.

Around the age of 21, after having started a career in Communication, a distressful life situation made me change path and dedicate myself to share the benefits of dance and movement with people around me. Since then I have deepened my knowledge in different disciplines: dance movement therapy,  yoga, neuroscience, flamenco dance, Schema Therapy, mindfulness, Contact Improvisation, 5 rhythms, Art therapy… anything related to therapy, body and creativity.

Moreover, since the age of 19, I have volunteered, with very diverse and vulnerable populations, orphan children, teenagers from difficult backgrounds, migrants and refugees, sexually abused girls and sufferers of domestic violence.
